A thrilling encounter between Pyrland School and Minehead Middle School’s Year 9 football teams unfolded in an action packed match which ended 2-2 after regular time and saw us emerge victorious 5-4 in a penalty shoot out.

The match began with a bang as Minehead struck early, taking the lead within the first 3 minutes. A quick break down the wing and a well-executed shot put Pyrland on the back foot, trailing 1-0.

However, Pyrland responded with resilience and levelled the scores in the 20th minute. Akindoyin delivered a stunning long-range strike that flew into the top corner, leaving the Minehead goalkeeper helpless. It was a truly world-class goal that energized the team and the crowd.

Pyrland then took control in the 33rd minute. Szymon’s vision and precise pass into the box allowed Akindoyin to finish calmly with a well-timed tap-in, putting Pyrland 2-1 ahead and completing a brilliant individual performance from Akindoyin.

As the second half progressed, Minehead pushed hard for an equaliser, and their efforts paid off when they found the back of the net, making it 2-2. Both teams fought valiantly in the remaining minutes, but the match ended in a draw, sending the game to penalties.

The shootout was a tense affair, but Max F, Pyrland’s goalkeeper, emerged as the hero. He produced a fantastic save, diving to his left to deny a top-corner strike from Minehead, keeping Pyrland’s hopes alive. With the score tied at 4-4 in the shootout, it was Max F who stepped up to take the decisive penalty. Calmly, he struck the ball into the net, sealing a dramatic 5-4 penalty win for Pyrland School.

A superb team effort, but it was Max F’s heroics that earned Pyrland a well-deserved victory. A match to remember, full of skill, determination and heart.
