Year 6 Transition
We take the transition of Year 6 students joining Pyrland School very seriously. On this page you’ll find help and information about joining Pyrland School. We will keep this page updated as new details become available.

Transition Lead
Mrs Vercoe (Transition Lead) and Ms Gold (SENDCo) will work closely with primary school staff once outcome letters are received. They will liaise with Year 6 teachers and SENDCos and arrange to visit the students in their primary schools. At these visits students will be given a pack of important information about transition. We will communicate with parents/carers via the email address and contact information on your application for a school place.
If needed, you can contact Mrs Vercoe via email: avercoe@thetauntonacademy.com
Year 6 – 7 Transition Week
During the summer holiday we will be working with The Big Step to run a programme to support the step from Year 6 to Year 7, just for students joining us in September. It will provide an additional opportunity for students to experience the school site, make new friends and build confidence and skills for moving to secondary school.
The programme will run from 14th – 18th August 2023. Further information can be found on their website: The Big Step
There is a cost for the week. If financial support is needed for The Big Step you may be eligible for a grant from Bishop Fox’s Education Foundation.
Transition Days
Our transition days are taking place on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd July (provisionally). Students will spend time in their tutor groups, have a tour of the school, take part in activities and taster lessons to help build their excitement about starting secondary school. Further information about transition days will be in your child’s information pack.
Confirmed Places
Transition is an exciting time but if you have any worries and questions, Mrs Vercoe and the Transition Team are on hand to help.
