Pyrland School Triumphs in Year 7 District Knockout Cup with 5-3 Victory
Match report by Mr Stirzaker and Mr Edwards
.
The Year 7 football team secured a thrilling 5-3 win away at Court Fields School, advancing to the next round of the District Knockout Cup in an action packed encounter. The match saw standout performances from multiple players, but it was Stanley WB who stole the show, earning the coveted Player of the Match award for his crucial defensive intervention and two goals.
.
The game got off to an electrifying start with Stanley playing a pivotal role. He opened the scoring in the sixth minute, calmly slotting home to give Pyrland a 1-0 lead. Not long after, Stanley doubled his tally with another brilliant finish, putting Pyrland 2-0 up and looking in control.
.
Pyrland’s dominance continued as Ethan L, the team’s captain, extended the lead to 3-0 with a strike that can only be described as a “screamer”. Given space Ethan lined up the shot from 30 yards out curling it into the side netting, putting Pyrland into a strong position going into the second half.
.
The second half started with Court Fields scoring 1, but not before Elijah H bounced straight back with a strike into the bottom corner taking us 4-1. Some slightly unstructured football later and Court Fields were right back in it at 4-3.
.
With the game on a knife edge, Stanley WB made a game changing defensive play. As Court Fields surged forward, looking to equalise at 4-4, Stanley made a vital last ditch slide tackle to prevent their striker from getting a shot off. This moment of brilliance ensured that Pyrland’s lead stayed intact, and shortly after, James (Jim) B sealed the win with a composed finish, making it 5-3.
.
It was a complete team performance, with defenders Artur W, Travis M, and Bobby G holding firm, while Elijah H, Ethan L, and George worked tirelessly in midfield to control the game. Up front, Oliver L and Onur M created constant pressure on the Courtfields defense, while Harry G in goal remained solid when called upon.
.
With this victory, Pyrland School advances to the next round of the Year 7 District Knockout Cup, and with such a well-rounded and determined team performance, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the competition’s next stages.
