Match report by Mr Hancock
Pyrland headed to Court Fields School for the district finals. Thanks to the Taunton traffic we arrived late and after a brief warm up started our campaign against Monkton Wood Academy. Elijah H gave Pyrland the lead after cutting in from the left hand side before slotting home. Thanks to some smart saves from Harry in goal and great defence from George and Stan it finished 1-0.
Straight onto game two against Danesfield. Elijah H showed skill and determination to get to the baseline before putting the ball across the face of goal for Onur’s hard work to be rewarded with a straightforward finish. Ethan, Elijah L and James took control of midfield for consecutive 1-0 victories.
After a short break The Castle School were our last opponents in the group stage. Connor linked up excellently with those behind him, as he did all afternoon, to set up Elijah H to lob the keeper from a tight angle. It looked like Pyrland would win all their group games 1-0, but The Castle had other ideas, scoring three goals in quick succession. This was a wake-up call that ultimately turned into a blessing in disguise as we went into the semi-finals as winners of the group.
The hosts Court Fields awaited in the semi. Ethan stepped forward from centre back to unleash a thunderbolt into the top corner from distance to put Pyrland 1-0 up. Not to be outdone by his defensive partner Stan scored a worldie from his own half to double the lead. Elijah L and Onur worked tirelessly to prevent Court Fields getting any foothold in the game. A comfortable 2-0 victory and onto the final.
Bishop Fox’s, who had comfortably brushed aside all before them, awaited in the final. The boys from Pyrland showed no fear in playing out from Harry in goal with great assurance. It was a back-and-forth encounter with both teams creating chances. After hitting the bar and watching the Fox’s keeper produce save after save it would have been easy for heads to drop.
However, the boys continued to push forward. Connor worked an opening and unleashed a powerful shot destined for the bottom corner, after another good save Elijah H followed in to give Pyrland a 1-0 lead. The boys dug deep to repel the response from Fox’s and saw out a 1-0 victory to take home the spoils.
Huge congratulations to them on their achievement. They scored in every game and kept four clean sheets from five matches.
