Our amazing U15 cricketers represented Pyrland in the schools indoor finals. Despite an injury prone tournament, we beat Bishop Fox’s School and narrowly missed making it to the county finals in a closely fought game against The Castle School.

After sadly losing Esme to the team following an injury in the warm ups, the first game was against Bishop Fox’s. We won the toss and put them in to bat. With some great bowling and tight fielding we felt confident going out to bat. However, Fox’s bowling was also very good and after some great attacking batting from Lily and Freyja, it came down to the last ball – we need to score one to win. Erica B faced a great delivery but managed to edge the ball behind, Lily half way down the wicket shouted for the run, which we made so we won the game by two runs!
.
Our second game was against a very strong The Castle School side, who we’d need to beat to get to the county finals at Somerset County Cricket Club. Once again, we fielded first and although we took several wickets through some accurate bowling from Ali and Tilly, The Castle managed to hit an impressive 94, which would take some beating.
.
Things started well, Freyja, Tilly and then Ali playing some classy shots and running well between the wickets, but just as we seemed to be gaining momentum, Freyja collided with a The Castle fielder whilst making a run, resulting in a knee injury and not being able to continue. After this, we struggled to find our rhythm and although Imogen, Freya C, Mya and Erica all put up a brave fight, The Castle bowlers were too experienced and we sadly didn’t manage to reach their target.

It was a great effort and reaching this stage of the competition was a huge achievement as it was, so we have so much to be proud of. Very well done girls, bring on more cricket in the summer!
