Pyrland stars shine at Taunton Area Athletics
Our best athletes headed to The Castle School, full of excitement to pit themselves against other local students in the area competition. Report by Mr Hanock
The races got underway, starting at an electric pace with the 100m. Flo L ran 15.6, Rose M 14.9 and Iris H smashed her PB and qualified for the next stage in a time of 14.1. Rose quickly stepped up for the 200m running 31.91. Josh R ran an impressive 13.2 in the senior boys, followed up with a 27.7 in the 200m. Elijah H ran a well judged 800m against athletes two years older than him in an excellent time of 2.41.
Next came the 1500m, Ruben M and Conor ran well, finishing in 5.33 and 5.36, respectively. Tilly H ran a brilliant race, winning by one second in a time 5.10. Iris H and Rose M put their speed to go use in the long jump, achieving 3.58 and 3.11, respectively. Taylor W came 3rd in the shot put with 7.14. She followed this up with 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 20.12. Tilly came 3rd with a throw of 18.50. Elijah H threw an excellent 23.17 to place 4th in the javelin.
All athletes represented the school in exemplary fashion and can be proud of the times and distances they achieved.
