Our brilliant Year 9 and 10 girls took part in the Somerset Cricket U15 Chance to Shine competition at Wembdon CC. They played three games, winning two and losing one, leaving them in an impressive fourth place out of nine teams. Report by Mrs Ardren.
.
The first game was against Huish Episcopi School, who won the toss and put us in to bat first. Openers Chloe S and Lily saw us through five overs, both batting brilliantly and running well between the wickets. Tilly, Lottie and Imogen also batted well adding to our tally with the innings ending with Pyrland reaching 75.
.
Our bowling and fielding was equally as strong. Everyone has to bowl in this format of the game and all eight bowled superbly, giving away few extras. Elsie H took the middle stump out with her first bowl and Tilly’s pace bowling put the batters on their back foot. Our fielding was initially a little nervy, but we soon found our form and managed to restrict Huish to a total of 45, giving Pyrland victory by 30 runs.
.
The second game was against a strong Holyrood School team. They too put us in to bat first. We again batted very well, with accurate and pacy bowling. Frustratingly, we were kept to singles and the occasional four. Holyrood’s experienced opening batters demonstrated some class and frustrated our bowlers. It looked like they may last the innings until up stepped Esme, who bowled a beautiful yorker which was hit straight back to her at pace, but with lightening reactions she held onto it securing a big wicket. The other bowlers all did a great job but sadly Holyrood reached our total by over six and went onto win by 34.
.
Our last game was against Haygrove School. With a change in the order, Tilly and Freya opened the batting. Both did a great job, both hitting several fours and sixes. Freya soon reached the retirement score of 20, receiving congratulations from her team mates in doing so. Imogen and Lottie also found the boundary in their innings and Chloe also hit a fast 20 so too had to retire.
.
We ended the innings with our best score of the day – 84. After three games out, bowlers were firing on all cylinders and with some great fielding, especially by Mya who stopped several boundaries and quickly got the ball in to wicket keeper Chloe. A great game to end the day and a second victory!
.
The team all conducted themselves brilliantly and supported each other in bat and field. They played some superb cricket and were also great ambassadors for Pyrland School.
.
Well done all!
