Year 7 Football Tournament. Match report by Mr Hedaux

The Year 7 girls delivered an outstanding performance at a seven-a-side tournament – showing resilience, teamwork and remarkable adaptability throughout the day. Despite travelling with only six players and competing in very wet and challenging conditions, the team embraced the situation with a positive attitude. Every player committed to playing in all positions for every match, demonstrating flexibility, determination and excellent team spirit.

The tournament began with a hard fought draw against The Castle School. On a slippery pitch, the girls showed great composure and determination after falling behind. Their persistence was rewarded when Violet scored a well earned equaliser, ensuring the team started the day on a positive note.

The team then produced a dominant display against Court Fields School, adapting superbly to the wet surface to secure an impressive 7–0 victory. The attacking play was confident and controlled, with Bobbi scoring four goals and Violet adding a further three. This match highlighted not only goal scoring ability but also strong passing, movement and teamwork despite the difficult conditions.

Next came a narrow 1–0 loss against Monkton Wood A team. In heavy conditions, this was arguably one of the strongest performances of the day. The girls defended bravely, worked tirelessly for one another and competed until the final whistle against a very strong side.

The tournament concluded on a high with a 1–0 win against Monkton Wood Bs. The team remained focused and disciplined on the wet pitch, with Bobbi once again scoring the decisive goal to cap off an excellent all round team effort.

Player of the Day was voted for by the team and was awarded to Bobbi, in recognition of her outstanding performances in every game, her goals, work rate and positive influence throughout the tournament.

Every player should be extremely proud of their contribution. Playing short handed, rotating positions constantly, and performing so well in very wet conditions is a credit to their attitude, resilience and teamwork. This tournament was an excellent example of togetherness and determination and it provides a strong foundation for the rest of the season.
