Year 9 Hockey Match Report
By Mrs Ardren
The Year 9 hockey team had their second fixture of what has sadly been another Covid hit season. They arrived at Castle School a little complacent after beating Courtfields 8-0 back in September, but soon realised it wasn’t going to be as easy this time!
Playing on astro also took some getting used to, but after a wobbly start they soon settled and played some lovely hockey. No score at half time. Castle started the second half with all guns blazing and scored an early goal on a counter attack, when we had pressed high up the pitch. After a few minutes of ‘heads down’, we turned disappointment into ‘fight’ and totally dominated the second half.
Poor Keely L playing as sweeper was freezing at the end as Castle just couldn’t get the ball past the half way line. However, we sadly couldn’t capitalise on all of our pressure, despite lots of efforts in the D and the final scored remained 0-1. The girls were disappointed, but after the Castle staff told them how fantastically well they had played and what a close game it was, they cheered up.
I was very proud of them, they worked so very hard and as a result of their commitment to practice after school, they have improved hugely and are fast becoming one of the most talented hockey teams I have had the pleasure of working with after being at TTA quite a few years!
