Congratulations to those students who were recognised in the Pride of Somerset Youth Awards. Year 11’s Liam F was highly commended for his work in mental health. Miles C in Year 10 won his category for raising money for cancer charities. Year 10’s Reagan G won for his success in swimming.
The 15th Pride of Youth Awards highlighted the remarkable achievements of young people across the county. A group of 10 winners received their awards at a ceremony hosted by BBC Somerset presenters Claire Carter and Simon Parkin at Bridgwater and Taunton College’s conference centre.
The awards are jointly organised by BBC Somerset, the Rotary Club of Taunton and Somerset Day, with sponsors Avon and Somerset Police, YMCA Dulverton Group, Young Somerset and the college. Winners, family, friends, VIPs and supporters heard tales of determination and success at the ceremony, which included entertainment from the Bridgwater and Taunton College Showcase Choir.
Reagan G won an award for his achievements in swimming, having won medals in the Swim Wales Winter Nationals fighting off tough competition. Reagan has been selected for the English Regional Schools Team.
Miles C raised funds for the Little Princess Trust a charity providing wigs for children who have lost their hair because of cancer treatment. Miles cut off his very long and much prized hair to reach out and empathise with children affected by cancer.
