Our more able mathematicians from Years 10 and 11 competed in the UKMT (United Kingdom Mathematics Trust) Intermediate Mathematical Challenge online on 2nd February 2022.
The Intermediate Mathematical Challenge (IMC) is a 60 minute, multiple choice competition aimed at students across the UK to encourage mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. The problems on the IMC are designed to make students think and promotes a love of problem solving.
We are pleased to announce some of our best results in the competition. Our pupils won a total of 11 medals; including one gold, one silver and nine bronze.
Gold certificate winners: Alex B
Silver certificate winners: Reagan G, Aditi A
Bronze certificate winners: Danial B, Keely C, Evie C, Kyran J, Menzi M, Haydon U, Alex C and Charlie H.
A big round of applause to our gold medallist Alex with 123 points. He also qualified to take part in Maclaurin Mathematical Olympiad which is a follow on round to the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge. A special mention to Reagan and Aditi to win a silver medal certificate. Thanks to everybody who took part in the competition.
We will carry on providing opportunities to our more able students to compete in national competitions to enrich their mathematical education and inspire a love of problem solving and these results are an excellent proof of the outstanding achievements of our students in mathematics.
We look forward to celebrating more great results for our Year 7 and 8 students, who will take part in the Junior Mathematical Challenge in April.
