This week both the Year 10 Hospitality and Catering classes went to tour the facilities at Bridgwater and Taunton College.
They were impressed with the beautiful Orchard Restaurant which is run by the college students for members of the public. They toured the massive catering kitchens and saw the industrial equipment used by students at the college to produce all the food served in the restaurant.
We were greeted by Becky Tomlinson who explained entry requirements for the college level 1, 2 and 3 catering courses and explained how the students are trained and then participate in running the onsite restaurant. Students who are interested in catering as a career are invited to contact Becky (tomlinsonr@btc.ac.uk) to come along and try their hands on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at the college.
This has really helped students to see the value of the Hospitality and Catering GCSE and we discussed the many opportunities available to them in Taunton, the rest of the UK or worldwide including cruise ships, ski resorts and hotels. We hope to return to the college later in the year to be trained by their experienced chefs and actually cook in their kitchens!
