Year 9 Rugby Match Report by Mr Stirzaker
Pyrland 43 – Kingsmead 24
Pyrland ended their season with a statement performance, overpowering Kingsmead 43–24 in a match full of energy, skill, and superb team rugby. Their second-half surge, built on confidence and belief, delivered a memorable finale to the year.
First Half
The match burst into life within minutes. Ollie B, absolutely wiredwith pre-match hype, picked up the ball and stormed forward so ferociously he almost carried himself clean over the dead-ball line. Somehow, stretching every inch, he grounded the ball just in time to give Pyrland a rapid-fire 5–0 lead. It was chaotic, electric, and the perfect start.
Kingsmead replied quickly with tries in the 8th and 9th minutes, taking advantage of loose defensive moments.
But Pyrland answered with a beautifully executed set-piece straight from the training paddock. From a strong, stable ruck, Ruben Mswept out the back to Myles K, who shaped a convincing pass towards the onrushing Dexter W. The dummy froze the defence, creating a hidden seam. Myles slipped through the screen and tapped down smartly. Ruben added the conversion.
Myles added another try in the 18th minute, once again using clever No.10 play to exploit a drifting defence.
But Kingsmead rallied late in the half, scoring in the 25th and 26th minutes to go into the break ahead.
Half-Time Reset
Playing downhill and fuelled by a sharp, energising message from Mr Stirzaker, Pyrland emerged for the second half with renewed clarity — and immediately took control.
Second Half
This was where the game — and the story — truly swung.
Fresh off scoring for his club the previous weekend, and inspired after watching Bath’s Max Ojomohlight up Twickenham on Sunday, Dexter W looked every bit the young replica of his idol.
His first try? A gorgeous dummy, selling the defender completely, followed by a burst through the gap just like Ojomoh himself.
His second? Identical magic — another dummy, another defender fooled, another explosive line-break. Two debut school tries, both scored with swagger and confidence that had clearly rubbed off from his weekend inspiration.
Myles converted the second of the pair, giving Pyrland a firm grip on the contest.
Pyrland kept pushing. In the 21st minute, Ollie B once again bulldozed through bodies with pure force and aggression, grounding his second of the game. Myles slotted the extras.
Final Try – A Perfect Team Move
To finish the match — and the season — Pyrland produced a brilliant team score.
From a competitive scrum, the platform was set.
Ruben fired the ball to Myles, who shaped left, selling the defence before whipping a pass back blindside.
This created a perfect two-on-onefor Oliver R, who timed his run, trusted the space, and dived over in the corner for a clinical finish.
Myles converted once more, sealing a 43–24 victory.
Full-Time
A superb win, built on passion, precision, and second-half domination.
From Ollie’s explosive start to Dexter’s Ojomoh-inspired brilliance, and a final try crafted by teamwork and intelligence, Pyrland ended their season exactly as they’ve played it: committed, confident, and constantly improving.
A brilliant end to a brilliant year. Undefeated!
