Pyrland School is expanding its facilities to accommodate an increase in pupil numbers, by building a new theatre and larger dining area. Work started over the Easter holidays on an event space with seating for 240 people, which is due to be completed in October 2025.
.
It is extending the dining facilities by converting the current hall into a new eating area and adding extra servery sections, which will be ready when pupils return to school in September 2025. As well as this work, there will also be improved security fencing installed at the rear of the playing field.
.
Since the end of March the school has been supported in its next stage of development by the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership, a trust with more than 40 schools, including primary, secondary, sixth form and a number of special schools. Mark Lawrence, who is currently the head teacher of Buckler’s Mead Academy in Yeovil, has been appointed Executive Head and will lead both schools.
.
Mr Lawrence said: “Since arriving, the staff and students here at Pyrland have been incredibly welcoming to me and my trust colleagues. They are a credit to the school and their families.
.
“This is a much anticipated project for the school and the investment will improve our facilities still further. The building development is an exciting move which will provide additional indoor space, allowing performing arts to flourish. The much needed improvements to eating areas will be very welcome for the whole school community.”
