Our top Year 11 students have been finding out about opportunities for scholarships and further Sixth Form study at Taunton School. They visited the private school to learn about scholarships and the headmaster’s award programmes for those keen to progress their studies next year through the International Baccalaureate (IB), A Level and BTEC pathways.
.
All students in Year 11 were offered the chance to find out about the programmes through their form tutor. They wanted to know what they could be doing now to help with the transition from Year 11 to 12 and to find out about the differences in a typical day for those studying A Levels and IB. The entry requirements for Taunton School Sixth Form are five GCSE passes at grade 5 or higher. In addition to the IB and scholarship opportunities our students found out about the co-curricular and leadership initiatives, the combined cadet force and the tutoring and Oxbridge programmes at Taunton School.
.
Former student Ruth Garang, who left Pyrland School two years ago, successfully applied for scholarship and rose to become Head Girl at Taunton School. She is currently studying medicine at university in London. Year 11 student Atlanta P said: “It was great, really interesting, and I will definitely be applying.”
.
The closing date for IB Scholarships is January 23rd 2023, with a morning at the school on February 6th for those students who have been shortlisted. Up to 100% of the fees may be funded by the Evans Lombe Scholarship. The next steps for those keen to pursue a place in September 2023 will be to contact Taunton School for a taster day of their chosen subjects, going into lessons and to arrange an open morning and visit.
